Excellent for seaside planting; tolerant to wind, sand, salt, and drought. Can be grown as large, bushy shrub or trained to form a single-trunked tree. Withstands severe pruning and can be espaliered. Its rounded glossy green leaves have reddish veins and grow to 8in. Wide; coppery when young. Small white blossoms in winter and spring are followed by clustered fruits, green maturing to purple.
